What makes this island unusual is the prohibition of private automobiles within the town limits. The most common modes of transportation are walking, horse-buggies, bicycles, mopeds, and motorcycles. Only taxis and delivery vehicles are allowed in the downtown area. Public bus service however and caiques are also available with regular schedules to ensure easy access to all the beaches of the island.
